Cultural Dance & Community-Building Workshops – China
Project Overview
As part of an international cultural exchange initiative, Professor Kelvin Cooper of Restorative Wellness Playground traveled to China to facilitate a series of cultural dance and community-building workshops centered on movement, rhythm, and collective learning.
The workshops brought together students and community participants to explore how dance and embodied practices can support connection, creativity, and cultural understanding.
Invitation and Collaboration
Kelvin Cooper was invited to participate in the program by friend and colleague Clement Mensah, who organized the workshops and co-led the cultural exchange sessions.
Together, Clement Mensah and Kelvin Cooper facilitated a series of interactive workshops that blended cultural dance traditions with restorative wellness practices designed to encourage empathy, collaboration, and community connection.
Their partnership brought together complementary perspectives on movement, cultural education, and community engagement.
Workshop Activities
Participants engaged in a variety of movement-based and community-building activities including:
• Cultural dance instruction
• Rhythm and movement exploration
• Collaborative group movement exercises
• Dialogue focused on cultural exchange and shared experiences
These sessions emphasized how movement can serve as a universal language that connects people across cultures and backgrounds.
Participants
The workshops included students and community members interested in exploring cultural dance, wellness practices, and collaborative movement.
Participants were encouraged to contribute their own perspectives, experiences, and creativity, helping shape each session into a shared learning experience.
Impact
The program demonstrated how cultural exchange through movement can create spaces for empathy, mutual respect, and deeper cross-cultural understanding.
By combining dance, dialogue, and restorative practices, the workshops reinforced the broader mission of Restorative Wellness Playground-creating environments where individuals and communities can connect through shared creative experiences.
